Whatsapp allows users to switch numbers assigned to their Whatsapp account when necessary, for example, when they relocate to a new country. To change your Whatsapp number without losing your chats, follow these steps:
Important Notes:
- Backup your chats beforehand via Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.
- Your chat history will be saved as long as you use the same device.
- Groups you are in will be notified of your number change.
On Android:
- Open Whatsapp.
- Tap the three-dot menu (top right) and select settings.
- Go to Account > Change Number.
- Tap Next.
- Enter your old and new phone numbers (with the required country codes).
- Tap Next.
- Choose if you want to notify your contacts:
- Tap Done and verify the new number via the SMS code.
On iPhone:
- Open Whatsapp.
- Go to Settings (bottom right).
- Select Account > Change Number
- Tap Next
- Enter your old and new phone numbers.
- Tap Next.
- Choose notification preferences for your contacts.
- Tap Done and verify the new number.
